PRESENTATION AND DOSSAGE

Hypersensitivity to anticholinesterases and bromide. Mechanical urinary or intestinal obstruction.
Bronchial asthma, cardiac dysrhythmias, epilepsy, recent coronary occlusion, vagotonia, hyperthyroidism, peptic ulcer, Parkinson’s disease, transient bradycardia. Pregnancy and lactation: Safety of use has not been established. Use only when clearly needed and when the potential benefits outweigh the unknown potential hazards to the fetus. The potentially serious adverse reactions in the nursing infants should be weighed against the importance of the drug to the mother.
The side effects of pyridostigmine bromide are most commonly related to overdosage and generally are of two varieties. Muscarinic: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, increased peristalsis, increased salivation, increased bronchial secretions, miosis and diaphoresis. Nicotinic: muscle cramps, fasciculation and weakness. Other possible side effects are diplopia, conjunctival hyperemia, dyspnea, headache, laryngospasm, bronchospams, AV block, syncope, arthralgia, urinary frequency and incontinence, and alopecia.
Aminoglycoside antibiotics, anticholinesterase drugs. Routing administration of atropine or belladonna deratives. Methocarbamol, mecamylamide, magnesium, neuromuscular blocking agents, malathion, guanethidine, anti-glaucoma agents containing phospholine iodide, anti-arrhythmic drugs, some general and local anesthetics.
